Damn, I Knew I Had Too Many Rights
Gibson: UK authorities can go after people for just suspicion that they’re terrorists. We can’t do that can we? Why is it so much easier for them, judge?
Napolitano: Because we have a written Constitution and they don’t, John.
Gibson: Oh! Oh! Oh! How could this get in our way, judge?
What casual Fox News Channel observer didn’t see this one coming? The British foil a major terrorist plot. So the question isn’t whether or not the talking heads at Fox News would start gushing about the Patriot Act. The real question was which of their right-wing spinmeisters would win the race to be the first to stomp all over the Constitution.
Now, I’m going to be good and resist the tempation to inject my opinion here. I just threw up a quickie blog where I can spew my political views. No politics there yet but I feel the urge coming.
The point is the Bush administration’s Patriot Act is popular amongst many of the conservative Foxies. So it is amusing to watch John Gibson breach the topic today on The Big Story. A featured guest was Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Alberto is a bit thick not quite catching the hint Gibson is plugging hard for the Patriot Act - and beyond. When Alberto fails to take the bait, Gibson is forced to repeat himself. That’s where the video clip - and the fun - begins.
The bulk of the clip is a discussion between Judge Andrew Napolitano and Gibson. Ironically, Gibson suddenly becomes a Europhile when he realizes British citizens have fewer rights than Americans. Just the mere thought of which must give Gibson one of those 4-hour erections the Cialis commercials keep warning us about!
