Fox & Friends spin “The Lost Tomb of Jesus”

The Discovery Channel is going to show this Sunday “The Lost Tomb of Jesus.” We all recall the religious controversy surrounding “The Da Vinci Code” which promoted the common theme that Jesus married Mary Magdalene. Well, “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” picks up the same idea with the key difference of trying to prove this as fact. Obviously, this is enough to work the folks over at Fox & Friends into a tizzy.

Now my interest in all of this isn’t particularly any of the religious controversy I speak of. My point here is to see how Fox & Friends handles the subject. And, despite Fox News’ constant crowing of being “fair and balanced” this piece is nothing but a hatchet job. Fox & Friends does a great job at mocking the evidence. Fox & Friends does a great job of data mining particular facts to poke holes into the theory. And, not too surprising, Fox & Friends makes no attempt to present the evidence supporting the theory. Worse, when they bring in a guest to discuss it he’s a biased source who goes out of his way to ridicule the theory as well.

I did some research using the “liberal mainstream media” the conservatives at Fox News constantly trash. And – surprise, surprise - guess what I find! Newsweek, for example, ran the article “Raiders of the Lost Tomb” which provides many points overlooked, mocked, or glossed over by Fox & Friends. But, of course, conservatives like Bill O’Reilly would predict that as he rails against the liberal secular progressives out to destroy religion all the time. Bill would expect Newsweek to use this as an excuse to beat on Christianity. But if you read the article all the points Fox & Friends mention discounting the theory are brought up without all the ideological spin. In fact, you’ll find even more facts that discount the documentary’s theory in that article. Surprised Fox & Friends didn’t mention them? Don’t be. In order to bring them up they would have had to delve deeply into the evidence supporting theory. They’re not that honest.
